Look Well and You Will Feel Well: How Improving Your Image Can Help You in Hard Times
We all have those mornings in which we wake-up feeling dispirited. It could be difficulties at work, stress, family problems, or loneliness. Particularly on these days, you should spend some extra time taking care of your appearance. Of course, it is also necessary to deal with your problem. But right now, this morning, at this moment you must do what you can do. For instance, you can go for a walk in a park to re-energise yourself. Water and trees are great energisers. When you come back, take a good shower or a bath with some aromatic oils, and apply moisturiser on your body and face. Style your hair and take extra care on your make-up or shaving, put on your bathrobe and prepare a very fresh and healthy breakfast. Set the table nicely, even if it is only for you. Listen to beautiful music while you are eating. Choose your clothes and accessories carefully. Pick that favourite garment that is flattering on your body and produces a lot of compliments. But don’t forget: it must be well ironed! Put your favourite fragrance on and choose a nice and comfortable pair of shoes. Look in the mirror before you leave, you will look well and certainly feel much better than when you woke up.
Be aware that your image is not only visual, but also what you say, your body language and how you behave. Today, do your best to not complain and specially avoid saying one of those clichés:
· I don’t have enough time/money!
· I am too tired!
· I am too old for this!
· I put so much weight on!
Make an effort to sound optimistic and remember: how you look conveys how you feel and think, and how you think, look and behave will affect how others look, feel and behave towards you. When we look good we will be perceived in a positive way and treated better. I know it is not fair but it is true.
Remember: in dark days, you must shine from within!
