Britney: it's divorce

Britney Spears has signed preliminary divorce papers, British reports say.

The pregnant star allegedly signed the documents after consulting lawyers about splitting from her husband, Kevin Federline.

A source told Britain's News Of The World newspaper: "It's a stressful time. Britney has already started seeing lawyers about splitting with Kevin.

"She is serious about it. She knows she has to get things moving."

Spears has been at the centre of months of speculation her marriage is on the rocks.

Last week it was revealed the singer hit out at Federline on her website - by posting a picture of herself posing with a rude hand gesture.

Spears, who has a baby son, Sean Preston, with Federline, put the photo under a poem - entitled Remembrance Of Who I Am - which was allegedly aimed at her 28-year-old spouse.

The verse, believed to be written by the singer, describes feeling tied down in "chains" and asks: "How do you stand sleeping at night?"

It continues with lines about feeling "manipulated" and "swallowed", and talks about "the sins of the Father".

It's over - but we'll always remain friends

The 25-year marriage of Greg and Laura Norman is over.

The former world No. 1 golfer has confirmed the split. While he would not reveal the details of why the divorce happened, it is estimated the settlement could result in his wife getting as much as $us 200 million.

Norman was quoted as saying "We are going to do this amicably. We both want to do it amicably. That's the best way of going about it. We've had 27 years together and, absolutely, we will remain friends'

It's over for McCartney-Mills

UPDATE

McCartney and Mills appeared in court in London on March 1 for a preliminary hearing in their divorce.

One press report said McCartney, whose fortune is estimated at between 800 million and one billion dollars, is planning to offer a £25 million ($60.7 million) settlement to end the bitter divorce battle.

"Getting blood out of a stone"

But the 39-year-old also lamented in a separate interview that securing a divorce deal from the former Beatles legend was like "getting blood out of a stone".

Asked by Sky News television how long the divorce could take, she replied: "I've got no idea. It's like getting blood from a stone. It could take a year, I've got no idea," adding: "It's not down to me, it's all down to me hubby."

Mills and the former Beatle announced the end of their four-year marriage last May.

But the divorce has turned into an acrimonious affair played out in the media, with leaked divorce papers in November claiming McCartney mistreated Mills, his second wife.

Will Heather settle for less ?

Will Heather Mills-McCartney  settle for a $25 million  pay-out to
avoid a painful divorce battle?

One of Britain's tabloids reckons so.

The ex-model, who split from Sir Paul McCartney in May after four years of marriage, wants a quick, painless settlement, it reports - despite the fact she reportedly could have battled for as much as £200 million.

A friend of Heather's told Britain's The People newspaper: "Heather is satisfied with the £10 million deal being discussed.

"She was only too aware that she could have gone into battle for a lot more. But she is still devastated over the break-up and is not in any mood for a bitter legal row."

The prime story

Former Beatle Paul McCartney and his second wife, Heather Mills McCartney, have announced that they are separating, citing pressures from the press and insisting their split is amicable.

"Having tried exceptionally hard to make our relationship work given the daily pressures surrounding us, it is with sadness that we have decided to go our separate ways", the couple said.

"Our parting is amicable and both of us still care about each other very much."

McCartney's wealth was estimated at £800 million ($1.98 billion) by the Sunday Times in their annual list of Britain's richest people. The couple are believed not to have a prenuptial agreement.
